Sorting

Beverage cartons collected with other paper (packaging) are either recycled together with other paper grades without prior sorting, or are sorted out and recycled separately. This depends on the requirements of the paper mills that recycle the beverage cartons.

Where beverage cartons are collected in the same container as plastic bottles and cans, the different materials are separated before being sent to recycling plants. Beverage cartons are recognised by automated sorting equipment, and the sorting is further improved by manual sorting at the end of the chain.

Once the beverage carton has been sorted, it will then be recycled or recovered.
