All the materials used to make beverage cartons are fully recyclable. Beverage cartons are on average made of 75% paperboard, 21% polymers and 4% aluminium.

These materials are a valuable raw material for new products when recycled. A simple, closed-loop water-based process, called re-pulping, allows the paperboard to be separated from the non-fibre layers.

Beverage carton recycling has grown steadily in Europe over the last 20 years. ACE members are committed to supporting and promoting beverage carton recycling across Europe.

The EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive sets out recovery and recycling targets for EU Member States.
